It’s official: principal Deryl Muir

2008-09-08 00:00

Loyalty, honour and truth is the motto of Longmarket Girls’ School and that’s just what the newly appointed principal plans to uphold.

Deryl Muir has been a teacher for 32 years — 30 at Longmarket Girls’ School‚ and acted as principal for 21 months.

She was officially appointed in August, and says she is delighted to be afforded the opportunity to continue to instill the school’s fine standard in education.

“I have been blessed to have dedicated and supportive staff who understand what working as a team is about. It is about helping our students grow and be prepared for the changing world and the challenges of the future.

“We want to continue to educate and nurture our children so they can believe in themselves and to be the best they can be, that is what we are here for.”

Muir had to step in at short notice in 2006, when the then principal, Jill Molloy, died suddenly after an operation.

“The challenge is dealing with the different aspects of the job. You are managing people, you are managing the school and managing the financial side of things to the point of running it like a business. … you have to deal with so many levels of relations that require you to make it a win-win situation for all involved.”

“But, I know the school and the community so well. … I really have developed such a love for the school.

“But I think my greatest asset is that I get on with people. I’m a good communicator and listener.”
