Jazz stars to perform at Celebrating Women Concert

ZONKE and Donald collaborate for the Celebrating Women Concert on August 24.

South Africa’s own jazz diva, Zonke, and Donald, who has catapulted to stardom in his debut year, come together for a special one-night-only concert at Pietermaritzburg’s Golden Horse Casino on Saturday.

The concert, organised by Golden Horse, The Witness and Teem Concepts, is being staged to mark Women’s Month. Zonke needs little introduction, having established her status as one of Mzansi’s well-known jazz divas. Her unique sound has seen her forge successful collaborations with many of SA’s artists and her soulful style is a firm favourite with house DJs.

Donald drew the nation’s attention in his debut year with a string of nominations both on the international and national circuits at the prestigious BET Awards, Channel O Awards, SAMAs and Metro FM awards, walking away with two Metros.

This is the first time that the two live acts will share the stage together, and are expected to draw a capacity crowd for what promises to be a super-charged, energetic and memorable show. They will be supported by artists including Andileh DH, T-Roxter, Njure and Sabza.

“The Celebrating Women Concert is certain to be one of the entertainment and music highlights of this season. We are absolutely thrilled to be working with The Witness and Teem Concepts to bring these two stars to Pietermaritzburg to perform together in concert for the first time. What better way is there to mark Women’s Month and hail the start of spring than with a music spectacular,” says the casino’s Marketing Manager, Prabashni Reddy.

The concert will be staged at the casino’s ample Grandstand from 5 pm. Tickets cost R300 per person and are on sale at Computicket and at the casino’s cash desk.
