Jessica Foord case ‘prevented rape’

2008-04-12 00:00

The courage of Hillcrest rape victim Jessica Foord saved another young woman from being raped.

The 21-year-old woman, who did not want to be named, her boyfriend and her brother were hijacked and kidnapped outside a friend’s house in Cowies Hill last Friday by two armed gunmen.

"I kept thinking that they were going to rape me. I prayed that they wouldn’t. One of the men asked me where we were going. We told them that we were going to a friend’s birthday," she said.

The man told the woman that it was also his birthday and he wanted her to be his "birthday present".

"He asked my boyfriend if he could rape me for his birthday. Then one of the guys in the back shouted at him to stop. He reminded the guy who wanted to rape me about the guys who were caught for Jessica’s rape," she said.

"After that they did not say anything else about raping me. They left us on a dirt road in kwaDabeka and told us to run away."

Soon after the hijacking, she spoke to Foord about the ordeal.

Foord said she was ecstatic that her courage saved someone from experiencing the same ordeal she went through.

Meanwhile, police shot and fatally wounded a third suspect in the crime when he tried to escape as police arrived to arrest him yesterday afternoon, a police spokesman told Weekend Witness.

The man is also linked to the rape of two young girls who were attacked outside the Waxy O’Connor restaurant in Westville last year.
