Jewellery accused faces more cases

2014-07-17 00:00

ONE of the men arrested for a R160 000 jewellery heist at Hayfields Mall made a brief appearance for two other robbery cases yesterday.

Thuthukani Danisa (27) and Sphesihle Mchunu (26) first appeared together in court for the Hayfields NWJ heist, and were remanded until July 29. It was expected that they would apply for bail, but this attempt was abandoned.

They are charged with holding up NWJ staff at gunpoint and making off with seven trays of jewellery worth R160 000.

The men are also charged with unlawful possession of a revolver and three live rounds of ammunition. Danisa later appeared alone for two other robberies. It is alleged that he robbed Sifiso Zimu of his Toyota Fortuner, cellphones and wallet at gunpoint in Nile Road, Scottsville on June 12.

On the following day he allegedly robbed Nondumiso Mkhize of cigarettes, beer, a cellphone and R832 in cash in the Vulindlela area. He was remanded until July 29 for further investigations to take place.
