Joost: Wants to get interdict to watch 'sex video'

2009-02-15 00:00

Former Springbok Joost van der Westhuizen wants to get an urgent court interdict to watch a video in which he is allegedly given oral sex by an unnamed woman.

Underpants and socks that he apparently doesn’t own and a strategically placed tattoo will be the most important “proof” of his innocence, he said yesterday.

Van der Westhuizen also confirmed he had received a threatening phone call three weeks ago during which he was told “your s**t starts now”.

Yesterday Rapport published a story on the alleged existence of the video. The paper also published a frame from the video.

In the photo a dark-haired man appears to be snorting something, while a woman, clad in pink underwear, is seen in the foreground.

The article said the man and the woman, presumably a prostitute, are sniffing a white powder in the video.

Yesterday Van der Westhuizen and his wife, singer Amor Vittone, vehemently denied that he was in a video of this nature.

When asked why he hadn’t applied for an interdict to stop the publication of the article when he was told about it on Saturday, he said: “Because I have nothing to hide. There are people who want to crush me and my family. I didn’t see the video before the article was published and therefore I can’t really comment on it. That’s why I want to get an interdict, so that I can watch it.”

The man on the video strips down to his black Polo socks and a pair of white underpants with holes in it, Rapport said.

“Judging by what was said in the article, everyone who knows me will know it can’t be me,” Van der Westhuizen said yesterday.

“First, I don’t own a pair of Polo socks in any shade.

“Amor buys my clothes and she’s never bought me Polo socks.

“Second, I don’t have a pair of underpants, in any shade, with ‘holes’ in. If they mean holes as in the underpants need mending, it’s nonsense. Our domestic worker has been instructed to summarily throw out any worn-out garments.

“If they mean those underpants that old men wear that are made from mesh fabric, I also don’t own any of those. I wear ordinary Jockeys.”

It is common knowledge that Van der Westhuizen has a tattoo on his bottom.

“If it’s really me on the video, the tattoo should be clearly visible.

“I also want to say that I have never used any drugs of any sort. I snort nothing,” he said.

“All I’m prepared to confirm at this stage, is that I received a call from a man three weeks ago.

He told me in fluent Afrikaans: ‘Jou kak begin nou’. [Your s**t starts now.] That explains everything.”

He and his wife stressed their love for each other.

Van der Westhuizen added that his wife is “supporting” him “incredibly” and said they have a “unique” relationship.

A few years ago Vittone had a similar experience when Loslyf magazine published a photograph of a woman’s breast and said it was hers.

In 2006 the Pretoria High Court awarded her R180 000 in damages.
