Judge: Jappie, Madondo on short list for post

2012-08-22 00:00

THE two KwaZulu-Natal judges short-listed for the vacant post of Deputy Judge President in the province are Judge Achmat Jappie and Judge Isaac Madondo.

A Pietermaritzburg advocate, Igna Stretch SC, has further been short-listed to be interviewed for one of the two judicial vacancies in the Eastern Cape high court at Port Elizabeth and Mthatha.

Madondo was previously short-listed for the position of deputy KZN judge president in March along with Judge Fikile Mokgohloa, but the JSC chose not to recommend either nominee and decided to conduct fresh interviews later this year.

During a frank interview with The Witness soon afterwards, Madondo bemoaned the fact that he was continually being unfairly portrayed in a bad light by the media due to alleged remarks he had made whilst competing against Judge Chiman Patel for the post of KZN judge president in 2011.

The short-listed candidates will be interviewed by the JSC in Cape Town on October 15 to 19.
