Judges confirm killer’s term

2013-02-06 00:00

A FULL bench of the KZN High Court has confirmed a sentence of life plus 15 years imprisonment on Tebogo Mofokeng (25) of Dambuza for the murder and robbery of Indranie Thungavelu (66) at Howick West.

Thungavelu was bludgeoned to death inside her kitchen with a padlock on August 21, 2009.

In a reserved judgment, KZN’s Judge President Chiman Patel, Judge Jerome Mnguni and Judge Rishi Seegobin, agreed that the sentences imposed on Mofokeng by Judge Isaac Madondo were appropriate.

According to the evidence at the trial, Mofokeng and an accomplice had gone to the victim’s house in broad daylight. They accosted Thungavelu inside her kitchen. Mofokeng struck her over the head with a padlock, and they thereafter stole a camera, binoculars and keys.

The victim died of her injuries in hospital two days later.
