‘Julius, my president!’ shouts unlikely praise singer ‘Cadre Lethabo’

A WOMAN referring to herself as “Cadre Lethabo” addressed hundreds of Malema supporters before his court appearance here yesterday, saying what a wonderful person he is.

Lethabo (57), who has been an ANC member since 1984 and lives in Seshego, said she had known Malema for nearly two decades

She said he had organised work for her as a cleaner with the departments of Health and Social Development.

“It’s thanks to President Malema that I have a job. Our cadre (Malema) is a good man.

“We pray that they will drop the charges against him. We will go on strike until he is released.”

Malema handed himself over at the Polokwane police station yesterday.

When he was taken to the court building under police escort in a small bus, Lethabo stood next to the vehicle, blew kisses and shrieked, “Julius, my president!”

She said she was very proud of her name, as it had been given to her by a former ANC youth leader, the late Peter Mokaba.

The night vigil in Polokwane on Tuesday evening ahead of Malemba’s court appearance took its toll on scores of his supporters who lay around on the pavements outside the regional court.

Small groups danced and sang, and the majority came alive only when Malema addressed the crowd after his court appearance.

Speakers warned the supporters not to speak to journalists. When Malema ally Floyd Shivambu addressed the crowd, he kept repeating “Voertsek, Jacob Zuma, voertsek.”

Former ANC Youth League secretary-general Sindiso Magaqa said Zuma must be relieved of the presidency and his leadership of the ANC, adding that the president had a hidden agenda.
