Just Jinjer and Nibs

2009-11-27 00:00

ONE of KwaZulu-Natal’s favourite guitarists, Nibs van der Spuy, has been confirmed as the opening act for Just Jinjer’s upcoming Milk and Honies KZN tour.

The three-show tour includes stops at Grind Café in Underberg on December 1, followed by the Golden Horse Casino in Pietermaritzburg on December 3 and, finally, Northwood Crusaders Sports Club in Durban North on December 4.

Van der Spuy, who has built a stellar reputation on the local music front as a finger-style guitarist and more recently as a singer-songwriter, has been travelling through Europe as well as Australia in recent years, widening his fan base. He has recently returned from tours of the United Kingdom and France, where his music — with its folk, world and African overtones — enjoys its greatest international popularity.

Right now though, Van der Spuy is looking forward to performing at Just Jinjer’s much-anticipated KZN concerts, the band’s first in the province in three years.

Having secured a multi-album international deal with Curb Records in Nashville, Just Jinjer recently returned home after nearly a decade recording and touring overseas. Fans can expect a dynamic live show, some brand new material and timeless old favourites. Space is limited, and there are still some tickets available for the show.

Advance tickets for the Pietermaritzburg show on December 3 cost R85 at the Golden Horse Casino and R100 at Computicket. Tickets will also be available at the gate on the night for R120. Gates open at 6 pm and the show starts at 7 pm in the casino’s grandstand area. For more information phone 033 395 8000.

Tickets for the Durban show at Northwood Crusaders Sports Club on December 4 cost R120 at Computicket and R150 at the gate on the night (subject to availability). Gates open at 6 pm and the show starts at 7 pm. Phone 031 563 0824 for more information.

If you’re in the southern Drakensberg area, tickets for the show at Underberg’s Grind Café cost R190, including dinner. Contact Christy at 082 994 2068 for more information.
