Juvenile (17) arrested for postbox bombing

2013-12-06 00:00

FOLLOWING an article in The Witness yesterday regarding postbox bombings in the Gillitts area and Winston Park, a 17-year-old juvenile has been arrested.

The teenager, who lives in Port Shepstone, was in the Gillitts area visiting friends and family during the time of a postbox bombing in Stockville.

He was positively linked to only one of the bombings, according to SA Can founder Brian Jones.

He said the juvenile, who cannot be named, appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday and will be charged for the postbox bombing in Stockville.

“The child’s parents were extremely shocked about what their son had done, especially because he is not known to do things like that,” said Jones.

“Our informant who helped us with such vital information will receive the reward of R3 500. We are so thankful to the Hillcrest police who drove up and down the neighbourhood trying to find the culprits and then eventually driving to Port Shepstone to arrest him.”

Jones added that this arrest proves there is a much bigger problem at hand.

“Initially we thought it was a gang of local kids misbehaving, but since the hype this issue sparked on social networking sites, we feel other children are getting the idea to do the same thing and pursue it.”

Jones added they will find the other culprits for the destruction of postboxes to the value of R20 000.
