KZN ANC: No say over premier’s going or staying

2013-07-24 00:00

THE ANC in KwaZulu-Natal says it has no say whether Zweli Mkhize remains the premier of the province.

The party was responding to weekend media reports that Mkhize will move to Luthuli House sooner rather than later to take up his position as treasurer-general on a full-time basis.

He was elected to the position during the ANC elective conference in Mangaung, Bloemfontein last year.

“The province wants to reiterate the confidence it has in the current premier and the national treasurer-general, Comrade Zweli Mkhize. We are confident that Mkhize is capable of executing his tasks and he continues to excel in his duties as a premier of this province,” said the party’s spokesperson, Senzo Mkhize, in a statement. “The issue of Mkhize being full-time as the treasurer-general of the ANC is not in the hands of the province, as it falls under the jurisdiction of the ANC national leadership,” he said.
