KZN ANC to meet Mfeka over his Mazibuye ties

2014-01-16 00:00

THE KZN ANC plans to meet the ANC Youth League presidential hopeful Phumlani Mfeka, who has strong links with the Mazibuye African Forum, to establish his association with the radical group.

“If he is the member of the organisation, the ANC will have to deal and meet with him to deal with the issue of his participation in the organisation that advances non-racialism while he is also participating in another organisation which advances issues of racial segregation,” ANC provincial secretary Sihle Zikalala said yesterday.

Zikalala made the statements in the wake of reports that Mfeka was being lobbied to stand for the top position in the youth body when it holds its elective conference in September.

Mfeka has openly associated with Mazibuye African Forum, which accuses Indians of being in control of the economy in the province and wants them excluded from black economic empowerment and affirmative action.

He caused a stir last year when he penned an article about Indians which drew outrage, resulting in an investigation by the Human Rights Commission.

Zikalala said the issues raised by the radical forum “might be substantive and correct to engage with”.

He spoke against attempts that may create new economic imbalances and said that it was wrong to be campaigning against Indians.

Mfeka said: “I am a member of the ANC and if the leadership of the ANC wants to talk to me, I am obliged to talk to them.”
