KZN Inland aiming to upset Highveld Strikers’ apple cart at the Wanderers

THE next round of the Provincial Three-Day Challenge gets under way today when third-placed Highveld Strikers from Gauteng host 11th-placed KZN Inland at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.

Said Inland head coach Anton Roux yesterday afternoon: “Our build-up has been good, we had two weeks off from games, but the guys went back to their clubs and got some game time under the belts.”

Roux gave the Inland squad a few days off after their momentous three-day success over KZN Coastal at Kingsmead last time out, but they then had two days’ hard training at their Maritzburg Oval base.

This week, Roux said, “The bowlers got into the ice baths and the batters worked on their own preparation. With so much heat around it is vital to keep the guys fresh, especially our bowlers, who hold the key to us being competitive.

“We unfortunately lose the services of Glen Addicott for the three-dayer as he is best man at his brother’s wedding, but he will play in the one-day game.

“Stephan Myburgh comes back to the team after his stint with the Dutch national side in the West Indies.”

The head coach said it would be good to have Myburgh back as he gave the side impetus up the order. Captain Kyle Nipper returns after his stint with the Dolphins.

“Highveld Strikers always have a strong side, but what more motivation for the Inland boys to upset the apple cart a bit on the other side of the Boerewors Curtain?

“Whoever we face doesn’t matter to us. We continue trying to become the best fielding unit in the competition. All we can do is trust in our preparation, and then give 100% on match day.”

KZN Inland: Stephan Myburgh, Chad Barron, Nabeel Bhayla, Devon Conway, SJ Erwee, Kyle Nipper (capt), Rudi Hillerman, Brady Barends, Kimeshan Chetty, Tabraiz Shamsi, Athie Maposa, Mbasa Gqadushe, Faheem Suleman, Glen Addicott.

Highveld Strikers: Keaton Jennings, Sizwe Masondo, Shane Burger, Grant Mokoena, Jean Symes, Richard Cameron, Shaheen Khan, Malcolm Nofal, Graham Hume, Ethan O’Reilly, Junior Dala.
