KZN Inland bury Southern Gauteng

2010-03-06 00:00

KZN Inland were too good for Southern Gauteng in the late game of the Indoor Hockey Interprovincial Tournament (IPT) at the YMCA in Pietermaritzburg last night, coming out 4-0 winners and booking a place in this morning’s semifinals.

Inland’s goals came from Ayden Shrives (2), Craig Haley and Karl Oftebro.

There was a surprise in Pool B of the men’s tournament, KZN Coastals Raiders going down 4-2 to their second side, KZN Coastals Mynahs.

Despite the defeat Raiders top Pool B, with just a goal difference of three separating them and Western Province. Mynahs are in third place, ahead of North West and Namibia.

Raiders meet Southern Gauteng in the second semifinal at midday at the YMCA with hot favourites KZN Inland facing Western Province at 11 am in the first semifinal.

In the ladies’ Pool A, North West lead KZN Inland A on goal difference despite their 5-2 defeat by the host province yesterday. Mynahs are also on six points, but a negative goal difference of seven has cost them a spot in the semifinals.

In ladies’ Pool B, the superior Southern Gauteng combination are well in front of second-placed KZN Raiders, having beaten them 6-2 yesterday.

At midday at GHS, Southerns meet KZN Inland A in the first ladies’ semifinal, with the second semifinal seeing Raiders tackle North West at 1 pm.

The women’s final is at 6 pm at the YMCA.
