KZN Inland confident of winning against Boland

2013-01-05 00:00

A SUPERB century by Brad Moses engineered KZN Inland’s 98-run lead in the first innings on day two of the CSA Provincial Three-day Competition match at the Maritzburg Oval yesterday, but determined Boland batting has left the encounter pretty much all square going into the final day today.

Inland made 320 in reply to Boland’s 222, and at the close yesterday the Western Cape lads were 81 for one in their second innings (Emile Kriek 53 not out), a deficit of just 19 runs, with nine wickets in hand.

“I was generally pleased with the day,” said Inland coach Grant Morgan. “There were two very tough chances off Tabraiz Shamsi’s bowling that might have got us a wicket or two, but we are still very positive in terms of winning the match. We’ll chase whatever they set us, but at the same time we will also be looking to bowl Boland out.”

Moses was the mainstay of the Inland innings, compiling his highest first-class score and fourth ton at this level in making 119 off 229 balls, which included nine fours and two sixes.

The 29-year-old St Charles product shared in the highest partnership of the match so far, 137 for the third wicket, with opener Nic Hendrie, who made 61 off 137 balls with seven fours and one six.

And 68 was added for the seventh wicket with the impressive Ruhan Pretorius, who scored 52 of those runs off just 83 balls that were studded with seven spanking fours and one six.

The CSA Provincial One-day Competition match (50-over) is from 9 am tomorrow. Should they win, this resurgent Inland side will finish an impressive second on the final Coastal Stream log.
