KZN Inland go down in Oudtshoorn after a promising start

2010-02-15 00:00

AFTER losing the Provincial Three-day Challenge cricket match against South Western Districts by five wickets inside two days, KZN Inland went down by 13 runs in the 40-over match at the Recreation Ground in Oudtshoorn yesterday.

In the 40-over shootout, Inland were well placed at 90 for one with three-quarters of their overs left to knock off 130-odd more runs.

Chasing 223 for the four match points, skipper Tim Drummond and fellow opener Mario Olivier had given Inland a flying start, racing to 50 in seven overs, before Glen Addicott maintained the eight runs per over momentum.

However, the loss of two quick wickets allowed SWD back into the match and they kept Inland just out of reach, despite Brad Moses and Ollie Humphries looking threatening for the visitors.

Earlier, spinner Moses and paceman Humphries had done well with the ball for Inland, but Dysseldorp’s Pieter Stuurman held the SWD innings together long enough for a defendable total to be posted.

Meanwhile, at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom, Coastal did well to draw their three-dayer with North West on Saturday, but in the 40-over clash yesterday, they went down by six wickets.

Cliffie Deacon hammered an undefeated 82 off just 56 balls to extinguish any hopes Coastal might have had of winning this one.
