KZN Inland respond well to NW

2013-10-11 00:00

MATCHES on day one of the CSA Provincial Three-Day Competition involving the two KZN sides saw a remarkable 36 wickets tumble.

At the PMB Oval, KZN Inland responded well after being dismissed for a disappointing 217 and North West were 67 for six at close of play, leaving the visitors 150 runs in arrears with four first innings wickets to play with.

North West invited Inland to take first knock and at 100-odd for three at lunch, with star batsman SJ Erwee and captain Shane Burger looking solid, the home side were poised for 300-plus. But it was not to be as Burger went for 31 and Erwee a well-played 81 (215 minutes, 147 balls, nine fours) as Dale Deeb and former Inland seamer Brady Barends cleaned up.

North West could not have reckoned with the form of Inland opening bowler Ruhan Pretorius (four for 21) and the rest of the attack and they will have their work cut out.

In PMB: KZN Inland 1st inn 217 in 78.5 overs (SJ Erwee 81, Shane Burger 31, Ruhan Pretorius 22, Graham Hume 26*; Dale Deeb 4-28, Brady Barends 4-26, Dieter Klein 2-28). North West 1st inn 67/6 after 20 overs (Pretorius 4-23).

In Windhoek: KZN Coastal 1st inn 80 in 35.1 overs. Namibia 1st inn 252 in 60.5 overs.
