KZN Inland stumble at 2011 IPT

2011-08-27 00:00

A PLAGUE of unfortunate events for the KZN Inland team continued at the 2011 SA Men’s Interprovincial Hockey Tournament (IPT), which took place in Randburg last week.

The first stumble came when a thrilling KZN derby between Coastal Raiders and Inland left the PMB boys disappointed that they had to share the points after a 2-2 draw.

Inland, had more shots on goal and more penalty corners.

The next stumble was Inland’s surprise 2-1 defeat to Witwatersrand. Inland now had to beat Southern Gauteng to reach the semi-finals, but a last-minute goal by Southerns gave them the draw they needed to get into yesterday’s semi-finals.

The 1-1 stalemate saw a stunning goal by Inland’s Damian Kimfley after a superb through-ball from the inspired Travis Hardnick, but a 5-1 defeat to Western Province Peninsula followed and Inland were left to beat Eastern Province 4-2 in the A Section relegation match.
