KZN Midlands players well represented

A NUMBER of KZN Midlands players have been chosen for the KZN Schools’ age-group tennis teams that are currently doing battle in the National Schools’ Weeks in Bloemfontein (primary schools) and Pretoria (high schools).

“The Midlands Tennis Association is proud of the number of players who have been picked to represent KZN,” president of the MTA, Hilary Greenwood said.

In the KZN primary schools’ girls’ team, the Midlands players selected are Jemma Veenstra, Kirsten Moody and Samantha Yeats, while Maxine Bateman, Nonhlanhla Msomi and Kirsten Higgs are the other players in the team.

In the KZN primary schools’ boys’ team, the Midlands player selected is Nicolai Manchev, with the rest of the side comprising Bradley Porteous, Damon Kesaris, Gavin Morris, Ahmed Deedat and Themba Makhanya.

In the KZN high schools’ tennis sides, Adrian Gorny and Andrew Darroch are the Midlands players in the U19 boys’ squad with the rest of the side including Cameron Weir, Dominic Koenig, Chris Walker and Bevan Anley. The KZN U19 girls’ side has Steph McDonald, Abby Latimer, Sherry King and Kim Stratford from Midlands with Lizel Birkenstock and Nomdumise Ntombela the others.

The KZN U17A team does not feature any Midlands players and is made up of Jeandre Hoogenboezem, Ronnie Myburgh, Richard Ashworth, Adrian Narramore, Eshaan Vij and Sean McIntosh.

Many of the Midlands players play for the Braaiketts Tennis Club.


U17 girls A: Jodi and Jenna Davidson, Jennifer Slotow, Georgi Willows, Ilona Govender and Thashmira Singh.

U15 boys A: Musa Mpondi, Keegan Foss, Yaseen Ibrahim, Mudiwa Llobell (Midlands), Ferdie Luttig (Midlands) and Thomas Masajoda.

U15 girls A: Bianca Birkenstock, Kendal Gorlei, Philippa Liasedes, Sarah Mayne (Midlands), Zandi Powell (Midlands) and Caylene Jamoloodeen (Midlands).

U17 boys B: Daniel Sibbald, Jarred Palzenberger, Wiaan Luttig (Midlands), Richard Thatcher, M. Mtiyane and Mikhail Modi.

U17 girls B: Cayleigh Conradie, Rachel Barnard (both Midlands), Sarah de Roos, Melissa Glutz (Midlands), Speshi Mbande and Darshana Govender (Midlands).

U15 boys B: Axel Cronje (Midlands), Dale Sandy, George Rowles, Ramon Fernandez, Matthew Bentley and Pranev Parekh.

U15 girls B: Hannah Power, Nicola Deenik, Tessa van der Merwe, Tess Miles (all Midlands), Talmay Nadesan and Zinhle Malevu.
