KZN and Home Affairs minister to crack whip in 2010

2009-11-26 00:00

HOME Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma said her department will vigorously embark on campaigns to get citizens’ identity documents, marriage certificates and birth certificates to them starting next year, in partnership with the KwaZulu-Natal government.

Speaking at a press briefing in the office of KZN Premier Dr Zweli Mkhize yesterday, Dlamini-Zuma said that by the 2011 local government elections, all those eligible to vote should have IDs so that political parties will not mount a negative campaign about the distribution of the documents.

The minister said the partnership will extend to the elected government representatives visiting Home Affairs offices, while Mkhize added that some visits will be in the form of surprise calls.
