ONCE again, South African musicians were honoured and recognised in style for their hard work and talent at the 16th annual MTN South African Music Awards (Samas) held at Sun City at the weekend. The awards recognise musical excellence across all genres.

Durban group Big Nuz were among the big winners with best kwaito album and record of the year.

Another Durban local, Tshepo Mngoma, took an award for Newcomer of the Year and Umgqumeni won for the Best Maskandi Album for I SMS.

KwaZulu-Natal Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation MEC Weziwe Thusi congratulated the KwaZulu-Natal artists.

“Our artists, particularly Big Nuz, have once again done us proud by scooping Best Album of the Year and Best Kwaito Album of the Year awards …
