KZN behind Malema as ANCYL president

2011-06-06 00:00

AMIDST reports that the ANC Youth League in KwaZulu-Natal was now divided over supporting Julius Malema to remain ANCYL president for the second term, the KZN chapter of the ANCYL unanimously endorsed Malema to continue leading the youth wing.

This was one of the resolutions taken during the two-day provincial general council (PGC) of the ANC which ended at the Durban City hall yesterday.

More than 900 ANCYL delegates from ten regions had gathered in Durban to deliberate on the ANCYL national elective conference scheduled for Gallagher Estate in Johannesburg from June 16 to June 20, 2011.

In a statement issued by ANCYL provincial secretary and Kokstad Deputy Mayor Bheki Mtolo the organisation said, “The ANC Youth League in KwaZulu Natal is totally behind President Julius Malema and convinced that his vibrancy, militancy and consistency reflect the true character of the ANC Youth League.”

“We are fully behind his leadership of the ANCYL despite attempts to deflect his focus.

“He will lead the ANC Youth League into the centenary and 53rd National Conference of the ANC scheduled for Mangaung in 2012,” the statement added.

Malema is expected to contest the ANCYL presidency with the ANCYL Gauteng leader and MEC for Sports and Recreation, Lebogang Maile.

The province of KwaZulu-Natal will be fielding its deputy chairperson Sindiso Magaqa to contest the secretary-general post.
