KZN businesses expand horizons to Russia, Czech

Members of a business delegation that will embark on a trip to the Russian Federation and the Czech Republic in May this year in search of exciting opportunities were this week given a comprehensive briefing in Pietermaritzburg, aimed at ensuring that all participants extract full value from the trip.

KwaZulu-Natal-based Black Economic Empowered companies are set to explore opportunities and expand their operations in these growing foreign markets.

The initiative is essentially a partnership between the KZN Finance and Economic Development Department and Trade and Investment KZN (TIKZN).

The briefing was attended by, among others, high-ranking officials from the Embassy of the Russian Federation, the Embassy of the Czech Republic, the KZN Finance and Economic Development Department and TIKZN.

KZN Treasury HoD Sipho Shabalala explained that this area of the globe represents a previously untapped market for KZN.

Particular emphasis will be placed on exploring tourism-related opportunities.

It is understood that participating KZN businesses will aim to market new tourist packages to the foreign tourist market.

Other sectors of interest include sports and business tourism, arts and crafts, glass manufacturing, minerals benefication, the packaging industry and food processing, said Zamo Gwala, CEO of TIKZN.

Shabalala stressed to participating business owners the need to be fully equipped during the visit, particularly in relation to the marketing of their respective businesses.
