KZN golfers for SA finals

2014-07-17 00:00

THE KwaZulu-Natal eliminations in the World Golfers Championship had an exciting start at the Durban Country Club on Friday.

This marks the beginning of the search for South Africa’s best amateur golfers to compete in Team SA at the 20th anniversary of the world event final in November. After battling it out for a winning spot in the top three of their flighting (0-5, 6-10, 11-15, 16-20 and 21-25), 15 KZN golfers proudly claimed their place in the national final.

They will now have to finish in the top two for a Team SA placement. If successful, they will experience a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to compete against amateur golfers from around the globe for the coveted world title. The competition is both between individual players and as a team.

“This year the championship celebrates the 20th Anniversary of World Finals, which will make it even more special for Team South Africa to hold onto the title after winning the championship for the first time last year,” said Craig Clay-Smith, spokesperson for World Golf Events South Africa, local organisers of the event.

“It is fantastic to see how this has become a premier amateur event in our country and we look forward to seeing the talent that will emerge in the eliminations still to be played at Zwartkop Country Club, Royal Cape Golf Club and Houghton Golf Club,”

If you missed the KZN regional elimination, there is still a chance to enter the Gauteng and Western Cape eliminations.

The championship is open to any amateur golfer over the age of 16 who holds an official handicap. Enter online at
