KZN hockey: Rovers beat Varsity 1-0

IN the recent KwaZulu-Natal Women’s Super League in Durban, PMB Varsity were shaded 1-0 by Rovers after scores were deadlocked 0-0 at half time, the winner coming from Nikita Cryer five minutes after the changeover.

The KZN Inland Women’s Premier League saw Collegians B beat Varsity B 7-0 with Morag McAllister bagging four goals. Standard lost 5-0 to Varsity A, for whom Sian Eustice netted a brace.

In KwaZulu-Natal Men’s Super League action, Maritzburg Varsity beat PMB Collegians 6-1 after leading 3-0 at half time.

Meanwhile, KZN Inland can look back with pride at the three former Inland age-group players who had key roles in South Africa winning the Olympic Qualifier Tournament in Japan on Sunday.

Midfielders Taine and Wade Paton (both Maritzburg College) and Tim Drummond (Hilton College) all played with distinction for Inland at schoolboy level and in a bid to ensure that future Drummonds and Patons get the opportunities they deserve, the KZN Inland Hockey Association is holding its annual golf day. The proceeds raised will go to young players who require funds to assist them get to national tournaments.

The format for the golf day, which will be held on Saturday, May 19, is four-ball better-ball and lots of prizes are on offer.
