KZN paramedics warned

2007-12-05 00:00

KZN Health MEC Neliswa Nkonyeni yesterday warned Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) personnel not to drink on the job as it puts people’s lives in danger.

This was after Transport MEC Bheki Cele said he has caught EMRS workers under the influence of alcohol at road blocks. He also warned EMRS workers not be lured into selling the new EMRS buses, which are the same as the new taxis. “Do not come and say you have been hijacked while you have handed over the vehicle. You must remember that when you are stealing from government you are denying other people a service,” he said.

Nkonyeni launched the Alpha Operations plan in Pietermaritzburg yesterday, which aims to ensure effective medical responses during the holiday season. “Thirty-five … units will be made available 24 hours a day, and two helicopters … will complement this operation with the focus mainly in the rural areas concentrating on critical emergencies,” said Nkonyeni.
