KZN people are happy … sort of

2014-06-27 00:00

JUST over half of KwaZulu-Natal’s citizens are happy with their lives in the province, according to a government-funded survey.

The pilot citizen satisfaction survey was undertaken to test the perceptions of the province’s citizens.

Announcing the survey’s results yesterday, Premier Senzo Mchunu said 53% of the population was content with their lives in the past year.

“We would like to aspire to achieve at least a 75% satisfaction rating by 2020,” Mchunu said.

However, he did not mention who undertook the survey and whether it would be done annually and what issues the respondents were surveyed on.

Mchunu said the provincial government aimed to be caring, competent and responsive.

“These are the measures against which we will want to be measured at the end of this term.

“We commit not just to pay lip service to the principles of Batho Pele, but to put people first in everything we do.”

The premier also announced a two-day seminar for government senior managers between July 31 and August 1.

“It will focus on ensuring that there is a clear understanding of the imperatives of the new government and what is expected from each other in terms of good governance, financial management and service delivery,” Mchunu said.
