KZN shine at Hilton festival

The Hilton U14 Festival saw all matches on the third day, Saturday, as 50-over matches, following the first two days, which were declaration games.

After the first three days, there were three unbeaten teams, all from KZN. Hosts Hilton had beaten Rondebosch, Grey College and Parktown; Maritzburg College beat St Albans, Rondebosch and Wynberg; and St Charles beat Parktown, St Johns and St Albans.

Scores in brief (Saturday)

Michaelhouse 164 (Anderson 44). Rondebosch 139 (Watson 4/17). Michaelhouse won by 25 runs.

St Albans 206-8. St Charles 207-6 (Ford 62, Du Plooy 41). St Charles won by 4 wickets.

Hilton 213 (Grant 60). Parktown 186 (Harris 65, Putter 6/45). Hilton won by 27 runs

Wynberg 102 (Samaai 33, Griffiths 4/20). M College 103-8 (Quarmby 36, Samaai 3/24). College won by 2 wickets.

St Johns 305-5 (Langschmidt 72, Coulentiares 70, Stocks 44*). Grey College 135. St Johns won by 170 runs

No result received from the St Stithians and Westville match.

• The second day — a captain’s declaration day — again saw the KZN sides doing well. Maritzburg College, Hilton and St Charles, by one wicket, all gained their second wins.

Michaelhouse drew their second match and Westville drew after losing on the first day. There were two centuries scored, one by Timothy Guise-Brown of Maritzburg College and the other by Heinrich Roberts of Grey College

Michaelhouse 226-5 dec (Watson 63, Stevens 50, Cronje 3/68). St Albans 183-4 (Cronje 65*, Myabe 55). Match drawn

Parktown 244-6 dec (Junke 57, Johnson 59, Simmonds 4/36). Westville 138-2 (Zondo 53*). Match drawn

St Johns 183 (Surgery 52*, Robinson 4/32). St Charles 185-9 (Ford 50). St Charles won by one wicket.

Maritzburg College 215-7 dec (Guise-Brown 110). Rondebosch 162 (Ali 81*, Fouche 6/30). M College won by 53 runs

St Stithians 250-8 dec (Milkanson 52, Steyn 56). Wynberg 251-3 (Smith 83, Samaai 50, Bedingham 79*). Wynberg won by 7 wkts.
