KZN sides for Futsal League

2013-10-10 00:00

THREE KwaZulu-Natal teams will be in action this week in the second weekend of the National Futsal League.

Local sides Maritzburg Hotspurs and Young Natalians will face off at Carter High School on Friday while Ethekwini City will host Cape Town Titans at the Tongaat Indoor Centre the following day. Both games will kick off at 7 pm.

All four teams will be playing their first games. In the opening game of the competition on Saturday last week, Flo Stars defeated hosts Tshwane City 9-8 after being 6-1 down at one point, and going into the break trailing 6-3.

The two other sides that compete in the eight-team competition are OBC Chickens from the Free State and Western Cape Eagles.

The national indoor football league was launched by the Safa- affiliated South African Indoor Football Association (Saifa) under the leadership of Pietermaritzburg attorney Poobalan Govindasamy.

The Witness reported last month that the league was made possible by the 2010 World Cup Legacy Trust that saw R1,6 million given to Saifa to get it off the ground.
