KZN to take healthcare services to taxi industry

2013-09-10 00:00

THE KZN Health Department is considering taking healthcare services to the taxi industry in an attempt to ensure taxi drivers have access to health care while still at work in the taxi ranks.

Health MEC Sibongiseni Dhlomo said last week in the legislature his department was engaging the taxi industry on its plans to bring health services through mobile clinics, and that a meeting was being planned for this week.

“We would rather not wait for them until they fall sick and come to our hospitals.

“We want to go to them where they work,” he said, referring to the taxi ranks.

Among services to be provided are HIV testing and counselling as well as diabetes testing and treatment.
