KZN’s PSL sides have to dig deep in Nedbank Cup

2014-02-28 00:00

KWAZULU-NATAL’S three PSL sides have been granted no favours after the draw for the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup was made yesterday.

With dates and venues still to be confirmed, AmaZulu, Maritzburg United and Golden Arrows will have to dig deep to progress to the quarter-finals, while at least one National First Division side will reach the last eight, courtesy of African Warriors and Milano meeting each other.

Arrows, currently holding up the PSL log, face a stern test in Mamelodi Sundowns who are second and any betting man would be wise to go with the favourites on this one. Upsets are always possible, but in this David versus Goliath showdown, Goliath should nail it down for once.

AmaZulu, enjoying a rejuvenated period in the top flight and currently fifth in the Premier League table, meet Wits in what should be an entertaining encounter.

With AmaZulu’s reputation for knocking in goals at the death of a game, this one definitely won’t be over until that final whistle sounds.

Maritzburg have drawn Platinum Stars and the Team of Choice could surprise. Recent results under astute coach Steve Komphela have seen the side look more settled and business-like and the opportunity to impress in a cup competition should keep them interested.
