KZN’s finalist for Mrs SA Pageant ‘happy, nervous’

2012-06-12 00:00

VANGEY Bronkhorst is excited about being the only finalist from KwaZulu-Natal in this year’s Mrs South Africa Pageant.

Bronkhorst is one of 20 finalists who were announced in Johannesburg last week.

The pageant is being organised in association with the Department of Women, Children and People with Disabilities to make a positive change in the country.

Bronkhorst, who is a Grade 3 teacher in Newcastle, believes the pageant is a good platform for people to help make a difference in their communities.

“I believe in living a purpose-driven life and want to be the voice of women, children and animals,” she said.

The pageant is for married women who highlight their role in South African society, making a difference in their lives and those of the people around them. It also embraces the values of marriage within all South Africa’s diverse cultures.

Bronkhorst said her mother had told her about the pageant.

“She thought it would be a good idea for me to enter. I did some research on it and then decided to enter,” she said.

Although Bronkhorst has done some modelling before, this will be her first pageant. She told The Witness she was proud of herself. “I am also very happy and nervous …”

She spoke highly of her competition, and said she believed the judging would not be easy.

Bronkhorst has found great support from her pupils who already see her as a winner.

The top 20 finalists will be attending functions, workshops and events over the next four months in preparation for the official pageant week and gala event to be help in October.

Tickets will be sold at R750 each.
