KZN’s last hope ‘living the dream’ in ‘Bar-One Manhunt’

2010-02-25 00:00

EIGHT of 14 contestants remain in the Bar-One Manhunt.

With Mr South Africa Stephen Segal already voted off, KwaZulu-Natal’s remaining representative is Gareth Brauteseth.

The Shelley Beach native is battling against other hopefuls to win prizes valued at R1 million.

Each week contestants compete in extreme sports and activities while members of the public vote for their favourite man. The winner of the challenge is offered immunity, while the contestant with the lowest votes is eliminated.

“I haven’t been in the bottom three yet,” Brauteseth said. “I hope it stays like that.”

Although he has lived in Cape Town for the past eight months, the charismatic 25-year-old calls KwaZulu-Natal home: he described himself as a “born-and-bred south coast boy”.

“I miss home so much,” he said. “I came home to swim Midmar three weeks ago and I realised just how much I missed Natal. Man, it’s the promised land,” he said.

The show has seen Brauteseth attempt a few crazy feats, such as white- water rafting, sky-diving and swinging between gorges.

“It’s just living the dream of every guy in South Africa,” he laughed.

Brauteseth says that if his bid at competition is a success, he will want to pursue a career in television presenting.

“Otherwise it’s back to my day job for me,” he joked.

And in the meantime? “You’ll probably find me watching a rugby game, supporting the Sharks,” he said.

To vote for Brauteseth, SMS “Bar One Gareth” to 34704.
