Karabus: Another delay in UAE

2013-04-10 00:00

CAPE TOWN — Professor Cyril Karabus’s appearance in an Abu Dhabi court yesterday was postponed to April 23, because no medical interpreter was available.

Advocate Michael Bagraim, Karabus’s legal representative in Cape Town, said yesterday it was unclear why the court needed a medical interpreter, as all the documents and a verdict were available in English and Arabic.

The state had indicated on March 21 that it would not appeal the verdict that there was no case against Karabus and that he had to be set free.

However, it has lodged an appeal, according to Bagraim.

Karabus’s attorneys in the United Arab Emirates could not arrange a meeting with the state prosecutor in Abu Dhabi on Monday to establish on what grounds it had made its latest appeal.
