2011-05-17 00:00

TWO men charged with the murders of Lorraine Karg and two employees at Sherwood Farm in Mooi River on July 21, 2010, appeared briefly in the high court in Pietermaritzburg yesterday and the case was postponed to September 19 for trial.

The prosecution is being conducted by state advocate Dheelan Naidoo.

According to the state’s indictment, the two accused — Mzwandile Magubane (21) and Nhlanhla Dladla (22) — are charged with the murders of Karg, Hilda Linyane and Shayi Mhlongo, attempted robbery with aggravating circumstances, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and two counts of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm of Bonginkosi Mhlongo and a youth, Innocent Linyane.

It is alleged by the prosecution that Neville and Lorraine Karg were lured from their farmhouse by a fire which was deliberately set in a field. Lorraine Karg and the other victims were set upon by the assailants when they returned to fetch more fire-fighting equipment.

The attackers allegedly tried to gain access to a safe, but were disturbed.
