THE Kearsney College Choir won gold at the sixth World Choir Games in China last week, competing against 80 countries, 470 choirs and 20 000 choristers.

The 53-strong boys’ choir participated in the games in Shaoxing, China, taking a gold medal in the category Scenic Folklore, for which they sang traditional African songs with choreography. They scored 91% — 0,2% less than a choir from Indonesia that won in that category.

The choir also won a third place silver medal for the Music of the Religions category.

The World Choir Games competition is considered to be the premier choir competition in the world and the Kearsney choir was invited to perform at the games’ prestigious gala evening.
