Kearsney put an end to Westville Boys’ winning streak

2014-09-16 00:00

WESTVILLE Boys’ High School’s winning run on the soccer field was brought to an abrupt end courtesy of Kearsney College at the weekend.

Playing at Kearsney, the match was an affair of two halves, the hosts owning the first period thanks to Trystan Tanner. He enjoyed a sparkling first half, running well and taking what opportunities came his way.

Besides creating chances, he made two which came his way count, scoring a brace to have his side 2-0 ahead at the break.

With all the work to do, Westville had the stronger second half, coming out after the break determined to close the gap and possibly level matters as quick as possible.

The visitors took the game to Kearsney, attacking from the opening whistle of the second stanza, putting the hosts under pressure to preserve their advantage.

Defenders and goalkeepers dug deep, calling on all their skill and acumen to keep Westville at bay, forcing the lads from down the hill to take some long rang shots in an effort to find the net.

One goal was pulled back but the clock ticked down to enable Kearsney to hold on and enjoy the win.

This match brought the curtain down on Kearsney’s season, one to remember as their only loss was a 2-1 defeat to DHS.
