Kearsney start year well against College

KEARSNEY College got their sporting year out the blocks this past weekend against Midlands rivals Maritzburg College, taking them on at cricket, waterpolo, tennis, squash and basketball.

College won the basketball, but Kearsney took the spoils in waterpolo, tennis and squash.

On the cricket field, rain had the final say soon after Kearsney began their run chase in a scheduled 50-over clash.

Many Kearsney boys took on the Drak Challenge over the weekend, conquering a tricky course on a low uMzimkulu River after the expected rains failed to arrive.

The Kearsney boys showed their steel with all of them finishing without any major damage to their boats.

Peter Hudson was the first K1 Kearsney paddler home, finishing 23rd in the U18 division. Fellow K1 paddlers Gavin Keeley, Keagan Loader, Luke Plotts and Stuart McCleave achieved their goal of finishing the race, with Keeley ninth overall in the U16 division.

Matthew Pitcher was the driver in a K2 and finished 59th overall in the doubles category.
