Kearsney take on College

2011-05-14 00:00

THERE are three matches where the top KZN sides are involved, one in the midlands and the other two in the Durban area. The match of the weekend is at Botha’s Hill where home side Kearsney battles Maritzburg College. Both teams were wounded in losses last week.

Kearsney has had two successive losses and they will not want a third loss in a row. College — with a disrupted backline due to injuries — lost against a strong King Edwards side.

The only two teams that both schools have played against are Hilton and DHS. Kearsney beat Hilton 42-0 and DHS 28-10. College also won comprehensively, beating Hilton 37-12 and DHS 32-0.

Westville will be hosting Hilton, in a likely win for the home team. Westville beat Kearsney two weeks ago and as Hilton did not trouble Kearsney much, the game on paper looks to be one-sided.

The game in the midlands is at Michaelhouse where they are hosting DHS. DHS will need to play well again against Michaelhouse, as both their forward packs look fairly evenly matched, and it should be a close game.

Clifton has had some comprehensive wins against second tier opposition and the confidence gained will stand them in good stead against visitors St Charles.

Selected fixtures (home side first): Kearsney v Maritzburg College; Westville v Hilton; Michaelhouse v DHS; Clifton v St Charles; Treverton v Weston; Wartburg v Howick; Northwood v Port Natal (played last night); Voortrekker v Glenwood II; Hillcrest v Crawford NC; Felixton v Creston; Greytown v Carter; Glenwood III v Pinetown; Linpark v Glenwood IV; Alexandra v Glenwood V; George Campbell v Empangeni
