2013-09-17 00:00

FUTURE stars of the cricket field will get an opportunity to showcase their talent at Kearsney College’s annual three-day tournament from September 20 to 22.

Eighteen teams will participate in the Jonssons Kingsmead Mynahs Twenty20 U11 tournament, which has 16 primary school sides and two development teams sponsored by the KZN Cricket Union.

In its fifth year, the event sees keen competition between the teams, with Highbury Prep School in Hillcrest also one of the venues.

Teams participating are the Highbury Hurricanes, Thomas More Titans, Hillcrest Hotshots, Westville Warriors, Kloof Cobras, Winston Park Pythons, Curro HCA Pinch Hitters, DPHS Dragons, Glenwood Hoppers, Clifton Chargers, Chelsea Lions, Northlanders, Crawford Kings XI, Umhlali Dolphins, Pelham Panthers and St Charles Strikers.

The two development sides are the Umgeni Mambas and Durban Central Tigers.

Tournament organisers Phil Ratcliffe and Mike Griffiths, past teachers at Kearsney who have been involved with schoolboy cricket for many years, have promised a keenly contested, completely fair tournament with all the games played in the best of spirits.

People are encouraged to watch the matches as entry to the two schools will be free and Kearsney’s coffee shop will be open for eats and refreshments throughout the three days.
