Keeper trouble at Downs

2014-03-29 00:00

JOHANNESBURG — With Wayne Sandilands out injured for the weekend’s fixture against University of Pretoria, Mamelodi Sundowns have no choice but to skate on thin ice in the goalkeeping department.

According to the Soccer-Laduma website, the title-chasing Brazilians need to win against arch-rivals, Tuks, at Loftus Stadium tomorrow in order to increase the pressure on leaders Kaizer Chiefs.

In fact, if they emerge victorious, they will sit on top of the table for the first time this season, although with two games more than the Amakhosi.

Sandilands got injured in Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Platinum Stars and is unlikely to feature in the derby.

Pitso Mosimane will possibly hand the starting reins to Kennedy Mweene, who made his last appearance against Wits on March 1, when Downs lost 3-1.

However, the Zambian international is sitting on three yellow cards, and will miss the potential league decider against Chiefs on April 5, if he gets cautioned on the weekend.
