FORMER Maritzburg United midfielder Junior Khanye says he is ready to bounce back into football in January, after turning to the church to clean up his act.

Khanye, who played for Malanti Chiefs in Swaziland last season, says he is now living a clean life after joining the Zion Christian Church (ZCC).

The former star, who also turned out for Kaizer Chiefs, Platinum Stars and United Football Club during his troubled career, has even visited the church’s headquarters, Zion City in Moria, outside Polokwane, and is now hoping to revive his soccer career.

Speaking in an interview with, Khanye says he is determined to make up for lost time.

“I am living a clean life now. I have been to Moria and now I am a fully fledged member of ZCC,” the 28-year-old says. “Going to church has helped me a lot as a person.

“I just need another second chance in life. I believe time is still on my side and I will bounce back to football very soon.”

Khanye, who was born and bred in Daveyton, is currently back home where he is keeping fit while he begins the search for a club.

“I am working hard at training,” he insists. “I am speaking to a few teams and hopefully, in January next year, I will be playing in the PSL.”
