Killed: baby (1) falls from flat

A one-year-old baby died after falling from a block of flats in Durban’s Gillespie Street during the early hours of yesterday morning.

Police spokesman Superintendent Muzi Mngomezulu said the baby’s mother realised he was not in the flat and alerted the police.

Police suspect that the baby plunged to his death while his mother was talking on the phone.

In other incidents, three men aged between 20 and 29 years were stabbed to death in kwaMashu and Mariannhill just hours after the new year was ushered in.

A 21-year-old man, whose name has not been released, was found stabbed to death in Mbijane Road, kwaMashu. Another man, aged 29, was stabbed to death in Vezi Road, also in kwaMashu.

In Mariannhill police discovered the body of a 20-year-old man who had also been stabbed to death.
