Killing: Suspect blames devil

2013-02-12 00:00

A MAN who police say has admitted to being a Satanist, appeared in the Eshowe Magistrate’s Court yesterday in connection with the death of Nokubonga Mhlongo (6).

The case was adjourned to February 15 for a bail application.

Police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane said a missing person docket was opened in December after Nokubonga’s parents reported her missing at Eshowe police station.

Her decomposed body was found last Friday next to a river. “The body was found after the suspect [Wiseman Tholelani Shandu (20) from Eshowe] was questioned by the police and pointed out the place where the body of a missing girl was left,” Zwane said.

He said Shandu said he was with two friends from Durban on the day Nokubonga went missing.

“He alleges that they are in a Satanist group to which he also belongs. He alleges that Nokubonga joined them while they were sitting next to the river at Eshowe.”

She was later killed and left next to the river.
