King Shaka: Military plane makes emergency landing

2012-10-10 00:00

A MILITARY aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing at the King Shaka International Airport in Durban yesterday.

Civil Aviation Authority spokesperson Gilbert Twala said that the plane had been on approach to land when the crew reported a fire in an engine on the right wing.

It is not clear where the aircraft was coming from and where its destination was.

Airports Company of South Africa spokesperson Colin Naidoo said that they had received reports of a distress call from the aircraft in the afternoon.

“All the emergency services were placed on stand-by and the aircraft landed without incident,” he said.

Naidoo confirmed that it was a military aircraft and said that the 11 people on board emerged completely unscathed.
