Kissing video: ‘it happens every day’

2008-08-08 00:00

“Things like this happen every day. It is not news.”

These are the words of Gordon Govender, principal of Wingen Heights Secondary in Shallcross, where a teacher was filmed allegedly kissing and fondling a matric pupil last week.

Govender said the whole matter has been blown out of proportion, and has already been resolved.

“Does the whole world know about it now? This is not news, there are better things to write about,” he said.

The video, shot with a cellphone camera, allegedly shows the Social Sciences teacher and the pupil kissing and fondling each other in an empty classroom with the door closed.

The teacher, who is in her early twenties and engaged, has resigned since the incident and the boy was temporarily suspended. Both have denied the allegations.

The video has been circulated around Chatsworth and Shallcross and has angered many parents.

Education Department officials have viewed the video and have launched an investigation.
