Knifing: Test for accused

2013-04-12 00:00

THE trial of three men charged with the 2011 murder of Ashburton resident Bob Hudson-Bennett (61) was adjourned to May 13 yesterday,  pending the outcome of a psychiatric evaluation of one of the accused.

The accused, Mzwakhe Mdlalose, was admitted to Fort Napier hospital yesterday for mental observation.

Allegations that he might not be mentally fit to stand trial were raised last year by family members, who produced reports indicating that he suffers from “mild mental retardation” and had previously been treated for a mental illness.

Mdlalose is on trial with Sandile Mncwabe (21) and Sphamandla Mkhize (22) for the murder of Hudson-Bennett, who was stabbed to death by intruders in his home on the night of February 5, 2011.
