Knifing: girl to stay in custody

2009-06-25 00:00

A GIRL aged 16, who is charged with four other accused with the murder of Kishore Ramdayal in Copesville on June 14, will remain in custody for the next week.

On July 2, a court will decide whether to release her on bail or into the care of a guardian.

Pietermaritzburg magistrate Paul van Dongen made this ruling yesterday.

The girl and her co-accused are also accused of the attempted murders of Ravie and Vincent Ramdayal during a fracas in Copesville in which Kishore Ramdayal’s throat was slit.

It is alleged Ravie and Vincent Ramdayal were assaulted with metal pipes.

The co-accused are Shamaine Ishwarlal (36), Dhiren Larkin and Dhiresh Singh (both 18) and Avikar Manmohan (20). They are to apply for bail on July 20, but the state will oppose it. — Own Correspondent.
