Knights cruise to victory over Warriors

2014-02-24 00:00

THE Chevrolet Knights cruised to a 10-wicket win shortly after tea on day four as a dramatic second-innings collapse by the Chevrolet Warriors left the home side requiring a meagre target of 71 for victory at Chevrolet Park in Bloemfontein yesterday.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Rudi Second’s 180-run blitzkrieg had helped the Knights to a first-innings lead of 127 after dismissing the visitors for 274 first time around, but, having been reduced to 18 for three late on day three, the Warriors appeared to be headed for safety as first-innings centurion David White’s half century (89) saw them reach lunch at 153 for four.

However, three crucial wickets from spinner Werner Coetsee (3 for 47) led the charge after the break as the Warriors capitulated to 197 all out, and openers Gihahn Cloete (31 not out) and Reeza Hendricks (31 not out) chased down the small target in just 18.3 overs.

The win catapults Knights up to second place in the standings with 69,36 points, while Warriors remain at the bottom on 45,48.
