KwaMpumuza: teenager killed by bakkie driven by minor

2012-10-15 00:00

A TEENAGER was killed when he was struck by a bakkie, allegedly driven by a minor in KwaMpumuza yesterday.

ER24 spokesperson Andre Vermaak told The Witness that the bakkie, carrying five people in the back, was being driven by a 14-year-old boy.

“The driver is believed to have lost control and hit a pedestrian — another teenager aged 14 — and went down an embankment.

The pedestrian died on the scene, said Vermaak.

One other person was critically injured in the crash, while the rest suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the bakkie was one of those who suffered minor injuries, he said.

The injured were taken to hospital by ER24.

Speaking to The Witness earlier yesterday, Captain Dolf Otto of the Collision Unit confirmed that a teenager was killed in the accident.

However, he could not give more details as he said police were still on the way to the scene.
